Conference: Smart Grids Week - Bregenz 2012

The ongoing discussions about climate change and the increasing criticism regarding the option of nuclear power give decentralized renewable power generation technologies a world wide boost. While technology competition is in full swing, Austria’s smart grids community is engaged in European initiatives, such as the Smart Grids D-A-CH cooperation and ERA-Net and internationally in the ISGAN activities.

Meanwhile the international Smart Grids Week has been established as main event in the international strategic smart grids process, taking place at locations with leading activities in Smart Grids. The choice for Bregenz as venue for the Smart Grids Week 2012 has been taken because two of the projects which are much noticed in the professional scene are the “Smart Grid Demo-Region Walsertal” and the e-mobility project “Vlotte” in the Vorarlberg region.

These activities will be presented at the Smart Grids Week | Bregenz 2012 in detail and first results regarding the implementation will be discussed. In addition to other international Smart Grids demo-activities and new research findings, current topics such as the issues of the increased need for flexibility in the power system, issues of storage and the roles of various actors around business processes, which still need to be defined, are in the center of the international Smart Grids Week 2012.
